The Conjuring The Devil Made Me Do It Full Movie Review

Curiously, while Warner Brothers is still trying to fix the unholy mess of the DC film universe (a rudimentary hack-job of false starts, recasts, cursed settings and confusing schedules), the studio has found more sustained success and structural coherence with another coherent series of films in a genre not traditionally associated with this form of unabashed expansion.

Unprecedented in the horror genre and as screeching as the films could have gotten, Office is an impressive and insightful case study of making a lot out of very little.

The “real” case files of paranormal investigator couple Ed and Lorraine Warren (deemed magical Samaritans or publicity-hungry charlatans, depending on who you believe) have inspired two direct dramatizations so far (one in Rhode Island and one in New York). Enfield) and provided the stabbing for three films about his devious doll Annabelle (the last of which they starred in).

One of the films also briefly featured The Nun, who later received her own film as one of the characters by Annabelle was also carried over to The Curse of La Llorona. It’s all as absurdly convoluted and ridiculously over the top as it sounds, but the films remain serious even at their silliest moments, which can be seen as both admirable and misleading.

The Conjuring: The enjoyable new chapter

It’s that celebration that fades a bit in the otherwise solidly entertaining new chapter, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, an elegantly accomplished return to form for a series that had shown signs of fatigue.

The Warrens (again played by Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson) delve back into their shady case and this time face one of their most iconic battles against evil. In 1981, the Warrens exorcised a demon from a boy in Connecticut (shown cold), but during the proceedings, it was transferred to a local young man who later murdered his landlord. it was an evil spirit that led to the slaughter.

Timeline aside, the Conjuring films feel like a throwback, lacking the studio polish of the many cheaper supernatural horrors that now litter screens big and small.

The rise of Blumhouse and their $5M hits (many of which are absolutely perfect) has led to underinvestment in genre titles, and even jumping to the $20-30M mark is suddenly giving them that Feeling Great, thrown back not only to the 70’s but also to the 2000’s when it was perfectly reasonable to afford a horror movie (regardless of the top quality, the $40 million that House of Wax or Gothika at least made you feel great).

The latter is arguably the biggest yet, directed in proper style by Michael Chaves (who was also behind 2019’s sodden La Llorona), the successor to James Wan, who serves as producer and feels like a mentor here, sharing his advice on the best way to maximize darkness and space. Though there are some shocks, like Wan before him, Chaves often opts for

Against the easy or obvious option of going for atmosphere over cheap tricks. As in Conjurings before it, there’s also a procedural storyline (this time more dominant than ever) that keeps our interest outside of the many fun house pieces as the Warrens try to figure out where and by whom the demon is summoned, expanding on the haunted house formula of the first two movies based around a detective story makes this one a little more engaging and feels a lot less repetitive but adds truffles.

Oil to a Big Mac doesn’t change the fact that it’s still a Big Mac Chaves, along with Aquaman writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, continues to deal primarily with witches in caves, demons in waterbeds, and zombies in morgues, So giving parts of the film to gravity is often ridiculous, especially when trying to get us interested in the barely recorded marriage between the Warrens, despite Farmiga and Wilson’s still compromising performances.
